Incision: Hospital Diaries Winter 2017 (2018)

Grant Jonathan (aka Grant Gronwald, aka HTML Flowers) is an American/Australian cartoonist and musician living in Melbourne. His work is truly underground, presented through home photo-copied 'zines and limited-run books. His subject matter is himself, in confessional style, and his life with the chronic illness Cystic Fibrosis. The writing is in turns, eloquent, poetic, violent, nihilistic, and self-pitying, the hopeless chronicle of a self-confessed 'useless disabled' from himself, or his alter-ego 'Little'. CF is a f*cking death sentence, and how to live with death as constant is what gives his writing its power.

He also draws like a god - like a young David Hockney - and I am so grateful to be able to own one of his drawings. With COVID, and with Grant's condition, this took a while to get here but well worth waiting for.
