Description
When I was 7, my uncle gave me a bunch of his old comics and memorabilia. Avengers 44 was an issue that was included with the treasures. I have loved this story ever since I first read it! The love triangle between The Red Guardian, The Black Widow, and Hawkeye stands out, as well as the Psychotron illusion machine, and the excellent showdown between Captain America and the Red Guardian at the climax of the issue. This lower panel disaster splash is burned in my brain, and I could barely believe my eyes when I saw this page available on Albert Moy's site. This page was more than twice as expensive as any other piece of art I have ever purchased, but Albert generously allowed me to make time payments. Sweet John Buscema action from back in 1967! Thanks, Albert!

Thank you! Technically speaking (glasses push up nose) it may be a 3/4ths splash, but those helpless bystanders are about to get the full splash from the Psychotron!

"An impressive display, as I will be the first to admit!"  (Although he does raise a good point about its military applications... :) )  Most sincere congratulations are in order, Doctor!  I, too, benefited from a friend's incredible generosity in the form of a life-changing stack of Silver Age Marvel treasure when I was young (in which I had 'Avengers' #s 43 and 45, but NOT 44!  I should've dropped by for an afternoon of reading! :) ), and I can only imagine what it would be like to get a beloved page from even one of those books!  And talk about CLASSIC: Big John had just started his run on 'Avengers' three issues previously (in #41) and Red Guardian had first appeared in the previous issue.  I can absolutely see how the beautiful textured inking on that bottom 2/3 splash would cement this into the neural pathways of (and maybe provide a foundation for, at that age?) a budding monster/horror artist.  This is a stunning piece, and worthy of its obvious place of honor in your awesome collection.  Heartfelt congrats, Dr. F!
