Description
Purchased from Albert circa 1994-ish at an NYC show for the huge price of low four digits. I asked him if he could reserve it for a day when I saw it, and his reply was "Pfffff - it's not going to sell today."

Another fun fact is I had only ever read Weapon-X as a TPB, and didn't know this was one of the original covers. I knew it as the back cover to the trade, and excitedly bought another one years later when it was featured on the cover. "Woo - hoo, my page is a cover now!" Dumb-ass...

Framed for over 25 years, I just cracked it out for Marvel's Weapon-X "Artist's Edition" (tm Scott Dunbier) project.

* to clarify, Marvel’s project is like an AE, but is not through Scott

When BWS came back to Marvel, I remember having a pretty snobbish attitude about his "new" art, feeling that the 70's Conan work was his peak.  I would see Weapon X art all over the place, probably even cheaper than what you paid for this piece, and still being pretty dismissive about it all.  Of course I eventually realized how masterful the Weapon X material was, but unfortunately not in time to take advantage of pre-boom prices.  Congrats on being a lot smarter than I was.  (Of course I'm not all that bright to begin with, so don't pat yourself on the back TOO much.  LOL)

Stunning, like all his Weapon X art. And the amazing part is you never see the treetops in any of the published versions. Which is a real shame as it adds to the scale and I'm sure BWS intended it that way. Thanks for posting.

The cold and serene safety of the frame is broken by the stir of life in the vast winter setting.  A loner in the wild, Weapon X wanders aimlessly relying on instincts and berserker rage to survive the bitter hand of nature.  Only to once again be taken by modern technology and scanned to be dissected and studied.  Such is the life of a BWS piece.

More than a little impressive uncovering! Love this scene with the trees and the snow. Just an amazing illustration by the master! Thanks for deciding to share it all these years later!

Gorgeous cover! Love the use of negative space.

The running Wolverine image is spectacular of course, but just look at those trees!

Thank you for posting this bad boy! Glad the AE was a good excuse to share this amazing art with the rest of CAF! Every bit of ink on this is so tightly controlled to have a maximum impact. I could stare at it for hours and I'm sure you've done that over the years! Huge congrats!

'Framed for over 25 years, I just cracked it out ' You will never make a professional picture framer with that sort of attitude and technique! Surprisingly unmarked artwork, despite your crude method of removal. Thanks for sharing the lovely artwork.

Superb! I could stare at this for hours. It is so evocative. BWS probably had a smile on his face when he looked at this finished on his drawing table.

Is it ok to say I really like the way he handled the trees? A+

A small(ish) Wolverine set against a stark but beautiful natural setting is so counterintuitive, but it's BWS, so it's perfect.

It just comes to my mind looking at this and makes me smile your comment to Felix in one of the podcasts: "Don't tell my wife if I own anything that goes for that kind of money..." or something similar, I guess your kids are going to be just fine. Congrats! :)
