Symbiote/Black Suit Spider-Man by Alex Saviuk (Terrificon 2021 Sketch)

Man. Where to begin..

After waiting more than an hour on Friday afternoon, it was finally 1:30 and the doors to Terrificon had officially opened. Without hesitation and already having mapped out the floor, I made a beeline straight to Alex's booth. I knew exactly what I wanted and apparently, so did he! After introducing myself and asking him to sign an original page he penciled for "Web of Spider-Man" #89, I asked for a sketch of Symbiote Spidey (standing on both feet with his arms crossed.) He replied, "Oh! Kinda like one of those museum, Bowen statues!" I immediately looked to my right at my buddy Sonu, who had just turned left to look at me. Then we both looked back at Alex. "YES!! Exactly!!" I said. Sonu and I were both serious statue collectors before we discovered original art and Randy Bowen, owner of Bowen Designs, was a pillar in that hobby. It was just crazy to me that Alex made the connection which inspired my sketch request and knew instantly that I wouldn't be disappointed. I ended up asking to look through his personal portfolio of published art and he graciously handed it over and even made more space on his table for me to view it flat. (I'll post what I got soon!). He was extremely cordial the entire time and really just gave off a great vibe. You can tell he genuinely appreciates the people who stop by to see him. When I returned later in the day to pick up my sketch, he nonchalantly pulls it out and places it on the table. At this point - I'm googly-eyed saying "WOW!! You did such an awesome job!!" Then he goes - "Oh, I didn't draw that. *Points down the hall* I bought it from some guy over there." LOL!! I probably laughed harder then I should have but I couldn't help it. I was so happy with the sketch. After expressing my gratitude and remembering I was headed back to N.Y., he wished me a safe drive back home and we said our goodbye's.

All I'll say is this: From that experience and interaction alone, Alex Saviuk is now my favorite Spider-Man artist of all time and I'll always remember that day at Terrificon because of him. What a guy.
