DescriptionShown here is the splash page for the last appearance of Sheena in Fiction House's Jumbo Comics.Sheena, Queen of the Jungle, was an unabashed copy of Tarzan save for the fact that Sheena is a beautiful woman. Like Tarzan, Sheena was an orphan who grew up in the jungle, and learned to thrive there. Like Tarzan, she could "talk" to the animals and was skilled at fighting with knives, spears, bows, and makeshift weapons. The character was created by Will Eisner and Jerry Iger, and first appeared in the British magazine, Wags #46 (January 1938). That first story was drawn by Mort Meskin. She first appeared in American comics in Fiction House's Jumbo Comics #1, and then in every issue of the title for the next 15 years which ended with issue 161 (April 1953). She also appeared in the 18-issue spin-off, Sheena, Queen of the Jungle (Spring 1942 – Winter 1952), which was the first comic book to title-star a female character. This is a pretty spectacular splash and if you can't be first. be happy with the last splash of the series. Social/Sharing |

Robert Webb was a very accomplished artist who doesn't get the credit he deserves when compared to Matt Baker, Al Feldstein and Jack Kamen.

As West pointed out, I was probably one of those guys who paid more attention to Baker and Kamen. But after seeing this beauty, I won't soon forget the name Robert Webb.

Quite special as a splash on its own with such good girl sexiness. The prototype for jungle girls through the years, it has inspired many artists and writers to have strong willed take charge women own center stage.

Spectacular! What a beauty! And the artwork/board itself appears to be amazingly clean and well-preserved.

The paper is in excellent condition. Pristine, compared to other Fiction House pages I own. In fact, I have two other pages from this story (one in this gallery) and the paper is nowhere near as nice. I will say that the Logo is a replacement.

At least they aged the paper a bit to make it look more authentic. I hate missing logos and prefer replacement when they are lost but when they are too bright for the page it can be a bit off-putting. Was just fortunate enough to win a bronze age title splash that I thought would never leave its current owner but it does have too-new looking replacement logo. Still absolutely love having a page from a favorite issue.
Also quite nice here is that a lot of the Fiction House pages I've noticed tend to have lots of blue editorial notes that can detract from the art. I love the whole the process on the older pages so that doesn't bother me as much as it might some but again, this page is also free from that.

Fantastic splash! Golden-age jungle girls were the queens of the GGA era.
