Description
"This is a Walt Kelly Pogo daily from November of 1950, soon after the long-running and very popular strip was launched in October of 1948. Always one of the more literate newspaper comic strips in the history of the medium, Pogo became a platform for Kelly's political and philosophical commentary."

"Pogo ran from 1948 through 1975 in national syndication and earned Kelly a Reuben award from the National Cartoonists Society in 1951. Kelly created the characters of Pogo and Albert the Alligator for Dell's Animal Comics #1 (1941) and they appeared in comic books for several years before making the jump to comic strips. Kelly is considered one of the greatest comic strip creators of all time. He used his pensive possum and the other inhabitants of the Okefenokee Swamp to explore often complex social and political issues."

Wonderful example from one of the best cartoonists ever.  Pogo was a strip that almost seemed to be ahead of its time.  As insightful and sophisticated, as it was charming and whimsical.  So beautifully drawn by the great Walt Kelly.

Thank you, Eric!  Kelly is one of the great American cartoonists and Pogo was definitely ahead of its time, like Krazy Kat.

Drawn to be featured a day after the 1950 mid term elections.  Pogo for President in 1952.

As you know, "I Go Pogo", was a parody of Eisenhower's "I Like Ike" campaign slogan.  Thanks, as always, for your thoughtful comments.

Man, you could print that today and it would still be pertinent. Running before you have a reason why...Pogo was such an excellent strip. My dad was a huge fan, so I read through all his books. Excellent daily here. Congrats!

Thank you, my friend!  It is kind of depressing how little things have changed, in some respects, in 70 years.

I love everything about this strip-including but not limited to the election discussion (and controversy), Pogo's facial expressions (especially in the second panel), and of course, the smiling, shaking dog!

Thank you, my friend!  A Walt Kelly Pogo strip has always been one of my white whales and I was very lucky to get this one.
