Classic open panel that breaks up the dialogue and visual pattern with a comedic pause just before the punchline.
You nailed it as you always do Marcus. The silent third panel is such a classic in the form. Peanuts did it all the time. In fact, the cartoonist, Mike Lynch had a feature of only the 3rd silent panel of Peanuts strips. It was amazing to see so many examples isolated from the other parts of the strip.
