I have no clue what is going on in this illustration, and yet, I love it completely.
So much fun. Makes you want to read the comic, and that's the job of a good cover.
When I was a teen in new york, our local movie house played Rocky Horror friday and Saturday at midnight. And before they played the movie they had an anteater short. We had a bunch o d rude jokes we would shout at the short. To see this cell brings back a lot of lovely, and drunken, memores.
Not enough artrists play with titles and topography. This is so striking.
What a charming piece. And I appreciate you sharing the information on the piece.
I don't know Rex Lindsey's work. This is slightly different from much of the archie art from this time. The line seems thicker. It is a nice change. Great get. Thanks for sharing.
Hell yeah! I was trying to explain the groovie goolies to my son the other day. It did not go well. This is the perfect image. I love it.
This strip would be about 60 ramon instant noodle packets.
I hate to admit, but as a kid, I lumped Sal in the pile of artists I found dull, like George Tuska, Don Heck and Don Perlin. I am happy to acknowledge that I was wrong on most counts. Escpially for Sal Buscema. This page is great. The third panel is one of the most fun alien panels I have seen in a spell.
I don't know this book, but it is always wonderful to see Cassaday's work. He had such strong composition and his storytelling here is amazing. Thank you for sharing it with us.

The design is great. You have the ability to keep it understandable, while filling the page with design. Neat.
This is delightful. Thank you for sharing. Just yesterday, I was at a wonderful show at the Norman Rockwell Show about Jazz Age Illustration. And though this is not "jazzy" per se, it has the amazing design and elegance of the pieces I saw.
This is a very neat piece. Weren't these images also used in the book Club Dumas? It's been a while since I read it, and it was a great book. I will admit that I am not a fan of the movie, but man great lithograph.
I suppose I am back, but a little different than the way I did it before. I still love the hobby, but some of the features of the hobby rubs me the wrong way. I discovered that dealing with commissions and art reps can be soul crushing. I had a bad experience with an art rep but I began to realize that I was letting one person and one instance make me hate all the things I love about OA. Over the past month I started getting work again. I am once again focusing on being a frugal collector, meaning nothing over 100 dollars. And for the forseeable future, my collecting will be focusing on art for coloring books, activity books and other ultra disposoable types of media. I also have gotten very into indi artists making zines and low print run work. The indi artists are delightful to work with and there work is so inventive and full of energy that many more established artists have neglected. For the near future, I am back, but I am staying in my lane far away from the main thoroughfare of OA collecting.
Getting into comic strip art is a great thing to do. There were so many good artists workng this rigid form and stillcreating amazing things.
Thank you for all the kind words you have given to my submissions and to so many others.
Out of all the Toth doodle pages, this might be my favorite one. You get his amazing art style and his perfect lettering. So cool.
The long panel with them in bed is such a great angle.
Yeah. I didn't notice that, but the guy has a Parker face. Good catch.
I am not sure why, but this page of characters is totally charmkng
Guy Davis creates so much emotion and tension in his characcters, and one of them is in a metal mask and still you can sense what he is feeling.
The panel layout in the second page is so inventive and it works with the character's emotions.
an active part of my collection is coloring book art and I am very pleased with what I have, but this one is wonderfully next level. It has the simplicity of coloring books, but it still is so much Herge. This is a great piece and I am so happy that you were able to get it.
I agree. It is the adding of unnecessary detail that creates character and tention that makes this page really work. Thanks all who are checking out these pages.
This is everything nine year old me ever wanted for a poster on the wall!!!!!
The amount of text on the page is crazy, but yet, it doesn't seem too out of control. I don't know how that works, but there is almost as many words as there is in a later Ditko page. - Great page!
I adore the way he used linework to create the shadow on the hand. This is a great version of a 1960s Hulk..
what an amazing collection of Geary art. His linework is sublime,
What a great piece of history here. I love your mention of how the changed the title to not be so confrontational. They should have kept it, but that's just me. Thanks for posting this
Yes.. This is one to be proud to have. You see the talent and the work that he put into his art. He always has been one of my favorite artists and this is a great piece of evidence on Kane's brilliance. Even his practice sketches rock.
I would not thing the topic and the artist would work together, but I am wrong. This is great.
I hope you know Marcus that myself and so many others on this site really appreciate your thoughtful and well considered comments. It helps make a strong community.
