DescriptionThis is a really fun piece and a look into early work done by Herb Trimpe for the Godzilla animated TV cartoon. The written descriptions of the characters are a great look into the creative process for the series and how it diverged from here. Herb's appreciation for Jack Kirby art is really evident here, especially in the faces of the characters. I don't know the year this was done but I would assume Herb was enlisted due to his work on the Godzilla comic as well as many other animated commercials from the time period (see my gallery for Herb's work on the Hulk Honeycomb commercial). This piece falls squarely into the category of art I didn't know I needed until I saw it for sale. I'd also love to find a guide for the Godzilla character. Interesting note - the back of the page says "British book", probably from some work Herb was doing on the Marvel British reprints at the time.Social/Sharing |

Yeah, Herb was really channeling Kirby here. This is a great quality rendering, and from a Trimpe Godzilla project, no less. I especially dig how he handled the shading and drop shadows. It has a nicely finished feel. Neat find. Congrats!

Shading and drop shadows was a distinct part of Herb's signature style, like another favorite artist. I love that as well. Thanks J

Respect. Herbert William Trimpe, Mr. Hulk himself. Seven years and 84 issues. Still one of the greatest Marvel runs of all time. Really nice example of Herb's untouched pencils. Great score for a super fan like you.

Nice Kirby Fourth World styled faces. More delicately done than his usual pencil artwork. Fun to see unique unpublished works like this as behind the scenes extras.

Nice, tight pencil lines from Herb. An interesting piece of comic art history.

Love this spot of time, talk about incredible cross-pollination. The notes are very fun, too!
