Spider-Man: Breakout #1 pg 23 SPLASH by Manuel Garcia

Great splash!  And as awkward as that back arm looks, I love the cool pose!  Not familiar with the artist, but the linework takes me back to the great Ross Andru days of Spidey.

Yeah, this is about as cool as crouched Spidey poses get. Really nice. I love the hands, especially the left one. Great stuff, and yes, these villains are strictly D-List material. No red carpet events for them!

Wow, what a pose. Not sure if it is humanly possible, but this is Spider-Man who no longer is truly human. Congrats.

Beautifully twisted Spider-Man form that is a lot McFarlane and a bit Ditko since Spider-Man was created out of the lineup of comics that were mainly monster titles.  The Spidey house style was going strong forever so these interpretations weren't allowed until we got Todd.   

Now those are some cool-looking Spidey eyes!

LOVE the sideways version, K!  Thanks for adding that!  Yeah - that Spidey splash is absolutely killer; with the narrowed eye-lenses and the angle on the face (and right hand) it makes me think of a cross between the Dell'Otto and Deodato Spideys (which would have been crawling around right around the same time this book was published, no?).  The left arm is so wicked cool (good to see he brought that down to be his anchor arm in panel two) and D-list villains or no, even the Controller and Mr. Fear appear to be thinking twice about scuffling with this unfriendly neighborhood Spider-Man.  Great snag, K, and many congrats on hitting the 18th new artist in your gallery this year!  Excited to see how many more you'll add!  Go, man, go!

I dig how we can all see something a little different with OA, like Spidey here. Got mentions of McFarlane, Ditko, Andru, Deodato, Dell'Otto...and I can get the connection on 'em all. And yes! Spidey does have a more unfriendly look here. Not sure his usual quippage matched the image...which is actually kinda cool. I always love it when you circle back to Spidey, especially when you post such an incredible image like this one!  Every artist gets to have fun with their own unique Spidey poses, and Manuel Garcia definitely had fun with this one.  Major congrats!!

Top Notch Spidey for sure!  Appreciate the added pick with the image turned on the side- as couldn't hold my head sideways as long as I would like to stare/study the great pose!  Also love the art without the color as we can get a better glimpse of the anatomy and posing as the artist drew it. Big Congrats!!

Great piece, Khalil! I don't know why but I always use how the fingers are drawn to judge a good Spider-Man piece. These were drawn perfectly and really flow with that unique pose. Talk about the artist trying to make Spider-Man, Spider-Like! 

Totally agree as far as the fingers! I remember an artist saying that outside of the face a lot of the emotion and expressiveness in comic art comes from the hands. I'd say that includes Spider-ness :) Thanks for the add, Chris!

Totally agree, and the book is actually colored pretty dark.  Not sure why, maybe the tone of the story.  In any case I think that fact makes the OA pop that much more when you compare the 2.  Thanks for the comments, Eric!

The linework is so much better than that coloring. Man the coloring in comics in the mid 00s is so bad.

Y'know, I remember thinking "wow, coloring has gone next level", and in a good way, when the Smith/Quesada Daredevil book was released in the late '90s. But then, yeah, some books after made you think they were going overboard, or still figuring out how to enhance vs detract with the new techniques. Thanks for the add, man!

Well, now you've pissed off the Controller and Mr Fear. Expect the exact same looks as they wait for you. ;) Where do you find all these excellent Spidey pages? That angle Garcia chose is perfect. I can almost see them asking him "You afraid? When are you gonna come down, Spider-Man?" "Well, gents, that wouldn't be so smart, now would it? Can I interest you in some spider webbing instead?" And that floated panel with the shadowed Spidey is great. You get perspective and depth in such a tiny space. Spectacular splash, Kahlil. Congrats!
