Description
I think it's safe to say that two of my favorite interests in life are comics and music. I have always thought the combination of both has worked well, and has led to some extremely cool projects. I guess this really speaks to the close relationship of art and music in general. These pages are from an eight page Heavy Metal story, inspired by a song from the metal band High On Fire, and are a great example of that relationship. Spewn From The Earth is the story title and opening track from High On Fire's eighth studio album, Electric Messiah. The album is an homage to Lemmy from Motörhead.

I am very happy to get both of these Heavy Metal pages along with the prelim. Also came with a signed copy of the issue and Phil Hester's script, which is fantastic and extremely detailed! So much process! Not only do I love Matt Allison's work, but have also been a fan of Sleep/High On Fire for a long time. I got to see High On Fire play live in Columbus a number of years ago, and it was brutal. Definitely a show I will not forget.

Page 8:
Absolutely love the perspectives used in the top right and bottom panel. The top right has reinforced that I really like the coming towards you shots, like out of a pipe or tunnel (reference Ultramega #3, Page 40), but this panel is actually going into the mouth. Love seeing that perspective used for both directions. In regards to the bottom panel, the cut away gives the entire panel great depth. It also adds to the flow of the page as the Leviathan and Behemoth battle. Almost appears as a separate panel at first glance.

The Allison inking is always so beautiful in itself.  The surrealist monster designs are also a great result of his talents.

They are. He has a signature monster look, and I don't get tired of it.

The creature design is terrific, and the character visible in the cutaway tunnel is a really cool and unusual effect

Very cool! I love the movement with the storm and liquid flying around.
