Description
The top strip is the first Barney Google that I ever bought (in 1980), and is one of my first purchases of any comic strip original. I had really admired it when it was offered by Collectors Book Store in the late 1970s, but I didn't bid on it since I wasn't ready at that time to start yet another collection. But, when it showed up in a Russ Cochran auction a few years later, I couln't pass on it a second time. Barney Google soon became one of the first strips that I began to collect in a relatively big way.

There is a note in the margin of the first strip which states: "Is this to imply that an inference should be drawn that Barney should kiss his end?" Then, in the second strip, Barney gets smacked in the face by his end.

I didn't buy the April 17, 1930 daily until after I had these two framed together or I would have included it in a common three strip frame. All of the originals are from the same storyline, in which Barney sells the north, eating end of Spark Plug to an unwitting investor.
