Description

Colorful advertisement appearing in The New York Times Magazine, for December 11,1938. Page 28 (back cover).
For one dollar some lucky kid would receive twelve issues of the Mickey Mouse Magazine with one issue arriving each month. The bottom third of the ad is the order form with additional subscriptions going for seventy five cents. With each subscription would come five Disney character masks and a gift card. Oh!... now the price to buy just one of those issues? - After posting this I discovered the same ad appeared in monotone in a rag edition on the same day. The regular newsprint edition was printed in color as seen here. The rag edition has no wording on the banner Mickey is carrying. I have a COMPLETE rag edition. The rag edition was produced on a very high quality newsprint, with a high percentage of cotton & linen content allowing the issues to remain very white & sturdy many years into the future. Given the subscription cost it is not surprising that libraries rather than individuals were the primarily subscribers.
