DescriptionWelcome back to Shemp's Gallery. At the beginning of the year I pledged to myself that I would post a new piece every Sunday for the year. Today, my goal of 52 new pieces posted to my gallery this year is accomplished. Next week's post will be #53(there was a bonus piece during Mcfarlane month). Why a new piece every week, because in 2020 I only posted 3 pieces for the year, 3!!!! That was pretty sad. I wanted to change that. I tried to make it interesting by mixing in a little bit of everything from my collection. I hope you enjoyed it.Dueling Dealers purchase #3. Green Lantern #101 pg. 1 title splash. A nice title splash from the Green Lantern/Green Arrow era of that title. Bought from Anthony Snyder of Anthony's Collectibles. I don't remember which show exactly. Alex Saviuk doesn't get much love for his work, outside of Spiderman. He did lots of great work for DC on the Atom and Aquaman and in DC Comics Presents. Here is a great splash page with Green Arrow and Black Canary Green Lantern #101 pg.1 "The Big Braintrust Boom!" written by Frank McGinty with art by Alex Saviuk and Vince Colletta. Social/Sharing |

It's a cool Arrow and Canary splash. You're right, nobody seems to be able to name anything Saviuk ever did aside from Spider-Man, despite doing so much other work for so many years beforehand, particularly at DC, and his stuff was always very solid. Congrats on meeting your 52 in 52 goal, Ceasar, it's been a fun year watching you post it all!

Great claim! The 70's DC splashes are a great value these days and title splashes that have a logo and the title are just as infomrative and stirring more than most any page in the book.
As for McGinty, "When the replacement players for the Washington Sentinels left the stadium that day, there was no ticker tape parade, no endorsement deals for sneakers or soda pop, or breakfast cereal. Just a locker to be cleaned out, and a ride home to catch. But what they didn't know, was that their lives had been changed forever because they had been part of something great. And greatness, no matter how brief, stays with a man. Every athlete dreams of a second chance, these men lived it."

Great pull Marcus! It was bothering me all day yesterday and this morning while at work, I couldn't figure out where I knew that name from. How could I forget the Keanu Reeves classic "The Replacements."
As the great Shane Falco said "I wish I could say something classy and inspirational, but that just wouldn't be our style. Pain heals. Chicks dig scars. Glory... lasts forever."
