Description

Historic cover to New Year's Evil: Prometheus #1 drawn back in 1997 by cover artist extraordinaire Jason Pearson...that launched a new kick-ass JLA villain.

New Year's Evil DC
New Year's Evil was a series of eight one-shot specials released in late 1997. The focus of the specials was on the supervillains of the DC Universe. Several of the villains would go on to play a larger role in various storylines the following year.

This is one of the first covers I got for my collection and I remember being put-out that it is smaller in size (9 x 12) compared to traditional comic art boards. I, foolishly, felt is was somehow "less art".
A few years later, I was able to get a few interior pages from this issue...and I considered selling off the cover, because I was still unsettled about the smaller size.

Now, after posting this 20 years later, I enjoy the fact that it is different. Makes it more off-beat.

Nothing off beat about it being smaller. That means the piece was tightly detailed enough to not need to be shrunk to make it as a cover. This was definitely a memorable issue as it had ties to the Morrison JLA and possible ties to Gog and Kingdom Come since Gog turns into Magog and was also a featured villain in this event.

It's not the size of the board, it's what's ON the board that matters. And if you ask me, there's more on this than a lot of other covers I've seen. JP always kills it. That's why he's one of my favorites.
