Tom Yeates Swamp Thing

Phil, your collection continues to be a master class in art - thank you for sharing this and bringing Yeates to our attention. 

Yeates had the dark noir style that was carrying the mystery and suspense genre together on Swamp Thing at that time.  This monster on monster battle is the kind of effort in choreography that he uses on his current adventure strips, but here with much more rough and tumble comic book style.

Yeah, I've always loved Yeates' work on Swamp Thing and on anything else he's done, really. But in fairness, even Nestor Redondo, whose work on the character preceded Yeates' work by a decade, really didn't begin to be appreciated until those of us at the start of the internet era began speaking up in support of his run. He was also completely ignored previous to that. It never fails, if you follow a legend, you are almost guaranteed to be ignored. Whether it be in the arts (comedians or musicians scheduled to go on stage after the previous act slayed the crowd) or in sports. By all accounts, Lou Gehrig was a better person than Babe Ruth and he also had a magnificent statistical career. But no matter how good he was, Ruth was always just a bit better. Shit, even in the batting lineup he literally followed Ruth! But don't worry, greatness always gets recognized eventually. Yeates will have his day!

Always loved Tom's work on this book (and many others! -did you see Lord of the desert born?)

Yeates definitely had a solid run on Swamp Thing. Cool page!
