Published 1970
From a Ka-Zar story, the Petrified Man relates his origin.
Early Barry Smith art - this was published the same month as Conan #2.
Like most comic readers, I loved Barry Smith's Conan but even in 2000, his Conan art was expensive but art from other titles was less expensive, especially a page with no popular heroes.
But this page has the recognizable elements of Barry Smith's art and so I settled for it.

Nice example of Windsor-Smith's early work and Grainger's inks are right on par with Buscema's work on Conan #2.

Beautiful example of Barry's Kirby inspired early work.

Agreed, back in 2000, BWS' Conan art was just a bit out of reach!

Even at this early stage, BWS conjures worlds of fantasy with an unparalleled luxury of details. His storytelling perfectly displays the tragic desperate run of the hapless sailor whose boat might as well as come from a Hyborian coast town...
