Description
Captain's Log Stardate 202203.3: As you can see, I've made some headway on the Deanna Troi commission. Through photo reference and guesswork I've almost got her face rendered; it's the opposite eye that I'm having difficulty with. I may have to wing it given the photo I'm working from is too blurry. I'll attempt to Netflix the series to that scene with that pose. Anyway, with regards to the background, I'm only applying thick shadows on the left side of that column since the torch is on the right, but that doesn't mean some heavy inks won't go on the right side of the column. I'm just outlining more detail. Deanna's hair required two different photos; I have to bear in mind that in 1989 her hair was full and wavy, stretching down her back, sometimes draping her shoulders. With a very thin pen, I've also added some stray hairs along the surface to give it some life. I also had to research how large the communicator was before inking it. With a classic 90s comic trick I've used a few straight lines in the background to indicate the beginning of the dust and smoke in the atmosphere of the cave. Minute etching of the rocks coming towards the foreground with increased shading and detail will sell that effect all the more so. Overthinking is the reason why the face isn't fully rendered, as I've demonstrated above. Rest assured, however, this project is nearly ready for the color stage.
