Andru is so good. Well thought out pacing, action and staging all over the page!
Well, that's one way to get a ride on the bus! Love the action on this page!
Spectacular action page, I especially like the middle panels!
Classic page layout with some great pacing. I love to see these older Tarantula and Spidey pages, congrats!
I mean a page with Poik Poik sound effects, how cool is that. Nice.
Oh what a great trip down memory lane. Fabulous page. Congrats!
Spectacular page, congratulations
Gorgeous action page by the amazing Ross Andru! I love the way the action flows from panel to panel! I especially love those two middle panels! Great pick-up!
The Duke strikes again! Love those action panels. What a great grab!
I loved Tarantula - such an underappreciated bad guy. I wear my toenails in his honour these days,
Tarantula!
Andru and Spider-Man!
True Marvel love in all of us command.
With glowing art we see thee fight,
The bus East Houston street!
From heels so high,
Tarantula, synagogue for thee.
God keep Hyman glorious and free!
Tarantula, we stand in bus for thee.
Tarantula, we stand with Groo for Fleed.
Great page Duke. I think that Andru was probably tthe artist on Amazing Spider-man when I was starting to buy comics, so he will always be a favorite artist.
Look, Hyman! Duke has another excellent page!
A tremendous example of story-telling by the Amazing Ross Andru (with help from Mr. Esposito). I too bought this issue through mail order back in the day. I loved the discourse between the two boys, as they watch the battle between Spidey and the Tarantula fold out before them. I've done a lot of research on Ross's real life references, even finding a photo of a bus with the Gordon's Gin sign on the side from near this time period. The man took his art to the next level. Thanks for sharing.
A great action page by Andru. I prefer Giacoia or Hunt on inks but Esposito did an ok job.
Lovely middle of traffic action sequence here, and I love the story in regards to the rabbi. It's an excelltent that point that makes for a very nice page.
From my first issue of Spider-Man! Love this great battle/chase page - as nine year olds it was pretty cool to see them fight on the tops of the cars in traffic and into the bus & it's still freakin awesome as a fifty-six year old!!! Go Spidey!!!
Oh man, an exciting Spidey vs Tarantula battle that takes place on the streets of New York City! I love it!! And how great that the page starts with a couple passengers remarking about the battle taking place, and then ends with the two battlers crashing into the same bus. How funny that the bus driver says his autopilot "Move to the rear of the bus please," and another rider hopes that if he is very quiet, they'll all just disappear. Great stuff!
Man this brings me back. Great update Duke. Thanks for sharing!
What an awesome page! Congrats Duke!
Great action packed panels here D. Congrats
I'm a big fan of Ross Andru on ASM, really good page with Spidey and Tarantula fighting on the street and in the bus!
Poik poik ...those pointed shoes must have been very uncomfortable! Jokes aside, this is classic Spidey Andru action. Great find!
Heluva page. Tarantula was one of those villains of Spidey's I wish would have been used more. Very cool arch-nemesis
There was an acrobatic, choreographed quality to Andru's Spidey work that was really distinct, and different from the classic Romita work that preceded it. This page is a great example of that dynamic approach--figures jumping out of frame, getting knocked off the page, Spidey tumbling around. Great stuff!
If Not Now, then When?
Andru is somehow still underrated... love it Dukie!
Big fan of the Andru Spider-Man run and loved his dust-ups with the Tarantula, but I particularly love how the Tarantula’s high-heel stabby shoes make the little >poiks< in the roofs of the cars, congrats!!
Wild action from Andru. The fourth panel is fantastic, but Andru's depiction of Spider-Man's super flexible body, heading feet-first through the window, is a real treat. So dynamic. Nice page!
Andru Spidey vs Tarantula?!?!? That's a huge get in my book - love this a ton. Congrats - thanks for sharing!
Spider vs spider! I always liked the battles between these 2 due to that similarity, and that they both shared they same costume colors :) Andru doing his thing on the action scene storytelling front as per usual in ASM! Congrats!
Andru ,Spider-man and Tarantula, museum piece .
