Pen and Ink, 20.5″ X 15″ FRAMED, 10″ X 5″ By Sight

A Stunning Original Drawing of a Southwestern Scene

DESCRIPTION: An original very detailed sketch by Olaf Wieghorst, rendered in pen and ink on lined paper. The stunning sketch is of a Southwestern style adobe house with a covered porch, large chimney, separate small oven in front, fence and tree at left. A man in a large sombrero squats in the shade of the porch, his horse resting nearby. An outstanding depiction of distinctive era which marks most of Wieghorst’s artistic themes. Along the bottom, Olaf has signed and dated the piece and included the inscription of “To the Campbells with many thanks for a lovely party. / Mae & Olaf Wieghorst / March 5th, 1960”. Verso of the sheet has several signatures and comments of probable other party attendees. An outstanding example of this artists work. The art is presented matted in a wood frame with a deep navy/black rubbed finish. Framed using all archival materials and UV glass.

Olaf Wieghorst was a painter of the American West in the vein of Frederic Remington and Charles Russell and is known for his Indian, cowboy and horse paintings. Wieghorst illustrations graced books, calendars and magazines, in addition to fine art. In 1992, he was inducted into the Hall of Great Westerners of the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. Olaf’s oil painting of his Western scenes command rather significant prices. Pieces such as this example, but instead rendered in oils, sell in the $20,000-$30,000 range.

This is a very handsome piece with a superb presentation!
