Description

Tad Dorgan was one of those cartoonist with his finger on the ever-changing pulse of popular culture and contemporary manners - especially of the male side of the culture, pool rooms, race tracks, saloons, etc) - and ESPECIALLY for the play of vernacular speech: "one of the wooden shoe sisters." Did he invent it or hear it from down the bar? A secret lost to time, probably. (A Google search finds only one reference to the expression in an Australian magazine called "Turners" from 1938, well after this Indoor Sports appeared: https://purl.slwa.wa.gov.au/slwa_b2788140_604.pdf)

And as always, Tad's cartooning is fast, loose and on the mark.

Nice artifact from that past that brings to light some aspect of that time period that wooden shoe like to know more about?
