DescriptionThere's a lot of history behind this piece. In the early 1970s George Perez was doing background art for Rich Buckler who was at Marvel Comics. In 1973 Rich gave this Thor piece, which was pencils only, to George. George inked this piece in 2013 and subsequently sold this piece to an art dealer who I purchased this from. Now, on a parallel track, I first met George in 1974 at the NYC Con. He told me that he had just turned pro and that he had done backgrounds for Rich. So when this piece was offered to me, I felt like I had a connection to it and had to buy it. In the late 1970s I owned a comic book store and was fortunate enough to have George visit the store a handful of times to meet and draw for his fans. Will Gabri-El was one of the fans who attended the meet and greets and this helped to forge his love of comic art. Will told me that he still has the color Wolverine drawing that George did for him. What great memories of a great artist and an even greater person! PS - Does anyone know who the character is in the background? We thought the Wizard or Karnak, but the costumes just dont match. Great piece from Rich and George and does a nice job of bridging the years in between your first meeting with George and the present. So glad this found a home with you. Congrats on getting a true Grail, Dave!
