Published 2006.
After the Supergirl series wad cancelled, Peter David created Fallen Angel, a series with the same mythology he had woven into the Supergirl series.
The protagonist, Lee, had similar powers to Supergirl and in issue 14 of this series he introduced a character, Lin, who was a nod to the Linda Danvers character.
The series ran for 20 issues under the DC imprint and then 33 more issues under IDW.

So, Peter David essentially created the Fallen Angel title out of frustration and to give himself the opportunity to finish telling the stories he wanted to tell in Supergirl? If so, that's commitment to your craft!
