Description
GRAIL DAY!

I have been searching for this two page spread for decades.

This page has not seen the light of day in over 50 years! SILVER SURFER #3 by John Buscema & Joe Sinnott is my all time favorite comic and Mephisto instantly became my favorite villainous creation by Buscema (if not my favorite villain by anyone). Thor #180 marks Mephisto’s first appearance outside of the original Surfer series and the first time he was drawn by anyone other than Buscema. I remember buying this book off of the stands and losing it when I got to this spread. Neal did such an exceptional job of capturing the malevolence of Buscema’s creation and Sinnott’s beautiful inks were at their peak.

From Joe Sinnott's private collection. Joe did not have the first page of the spread (see additional images). If anyone has info as to where it is I’d love to know as this page is never leaving my possession and I’d love to complete the image (hopefully before another 50 years pass)!

Decades long hunt, wow!  Huge congrats, Joe!  Outstanding image of Mephisto, and it's clear that a dynamic duo that Adams/Sinnott make.  Happy for you - I can picture Jusko cartwheels around the house right now :)  Persevence and patience can pay.  Good luck on finding the other half, but for now, bask in this one's devilish glory!

Congrats for finding this long wanted gem, first o-art from that I see  this unusal artist pairing and these 2 "fill-in" issues right after the superious Kirby run and the amazing Big John years ! You must have sit before it for some hours (like many do with your own art :) in awe when receiving that beauty. Good luck finding "the other half", but even alone" this piece stands out !

I would argue you got the better half as compositionally speaking the eye is drawn to this half anyway but it would be wonderful to have the two together again.

Congratulations Joe! If you could only have one of the two you've got the right one (literally and figuratively)!  But I know you want them both!

Congrats Joe! Thanks for sharing this, I was unfamiliar with the art in this book so it is nice to see for the first time. I was pulling Mephisto reference for Neal over a year ago when he was doing a commission of the character. If I had known about this story and page it would have been on my pull list. Sinfully delicious page!

Adams is incredible as his style for the characters was a lot leaner and meaner that was more aligned with the Buscema style.  His Mephisto art shows the sinews and strain of this supremely evil being manifest as unnaturally twisted physically to match the wicked dialogue.

True magnificient atrwork by two of the greatest men in the business.
Both Thor issues by Neal and Joe were beautiful and indeed this Mephisto rendition was among the best with Silver Surfer #3.
Congratulations for this gem, it surely deserves such a devoted house to stellar artwork.

Gorgeous, very nice! Reminds me of a Peter Paul Rubens composition, although at much smaller scale, Rubens oils can get to 40 feet tall.
