Description
Sometimes the art finds you. I was aware of Roy Krenkel and I was aware of what his finished artwork costs. I hemmed and hawed a little bit over buying just a sketch but considering the Roy is on par with his contemporaries Frazetta and Williamson and the page has some lighter work on the back of the back I decided to buy it.

While Roy did very little comic book work his work was amazing. If you can even find a piece of his work to buy - it will be well beyond my means.

Of late a bunch of his sketches have shown up in multiple places leading me to believe the family or some collector decided to sell all of the sketches. There are other nice ones out there but I kept coming back to this sketch and it really has some good detail. So I feel like this page found me as I went to the website to think about buying something else and instead listened to the siren song of the Wizard. A bonus is the back of the page has an even more preliminary piece. I will have to try and find what the finished work looks like, if it was every finished.

The most consummate of doodlers.  He just could not stop sketching. Roy must have done thousands and thousands of these. This is a nice one.

His noodling sketches are actually prized in and of themselves.  They look like they take more work and more instinctual pieces directly from the thoughts of the artist.
