Description
Tillie Walden gives me hope for the future of mature graphic storytelling and I'm thrilled to have picked up pages from her most recent book, the 2020 Eisner award-winning Are You Listening?

Walden's linework is both bold and delicate and she excels at humane, character-driven stories with a genre twist. I'll let the jacket description from the book do the talking. Please check this book out.

**Special thanks to Sean at Athenaeum Art for making this happen.**

Are You Listening description:

Bea is on the run. And then she runs into Lou.

This chance encounter sends them on a journey through West Texas, where strange things follow them wherever they go. The landscape morphs into an unsettling world, a mysterious cat joins them, and they are haunted by a group of threatening men. To stay safe, Bea and Lou must trust each other as they are driven to confront buried truths. The two women share their stories of loss and heartbreak―and a startling revelation about sexual assault―culminating in an exquisite example of human connection

Beautiful page, Mark! I've been meaning to read Tillie for so long. Unsure about the content but the art is so light and uplifting.

This looks promising.  Like some sort of catharsis is being eorked through.

I love the choices she made in panel sizing and composition. In the second panel she pans out and strips the background. Contrast increases the emotional impact of the third panel; she zooms in and uses the blacks to create a white field in the middle that unites the characters. A lot of thought went into making this page! Great find!
