High seas pirate attack scene gives the cover design a swinging swashbuckling look to Conan. Maybe they wanted to keep it vague since some people prefer the regular pound and ground stories more.

Thanks. I think either could have been used. The monster image cover used (lion/crocodile monster) is featured inside the comic. I'm a sucker for a monster on the cover anyway!

The more of these I see, which were not used, makes me despair of editors.
