Description

Children's Religious Storybook Illustrations Original Art Group of 14 (Samuel Lowe, c. 1940s-50s). In addition to publishing stories about characters like Slappy Duck and lots of coloring books, the Samuel Lowe Company also produced a number of children's books focusing on religion. Here's a batch of nice art from a number of different Catholic-themed books, including cover art for My Holy Communion, My Confession, and The Creed: What the Apostles Believed; other titles appear to be My Rosery, Prayers Before and After Meals, The Sign of the Cross, and several others. The covers are painted 3-up on one board, with an overlay for a guide to adding the titles. Artwork is in gouache on various-sized pieces of Bristol or illustration board, most have multiple small illustrations, all nicely detailed. Standard illustration size is 3" x 4", and there are 82 in all on 14 boards. Overall condition is Very Good, but one board has a small smoke shadow from an old warehouse fire, affecting three of the page panels.
