Description
"Boogey Man" was published by Print Mint, one of the first and most important Underground Comics publishers. This somewhat random comics production artifact came up on ebay in 2003 and I went for it. I call it a cover proof, and that may be what it is, but it could also just be a stray, uncut cover (crop marks are visible), I wouldn't know how to tell the difference.

Some of the great "second tier" underground comix artists contributed here: Jay Lynch's Wolverton hommage; Jeffrey Hayes' pulpy back cover, and inside cover work by Jeffrey's brother Rory (who also edited this comic). The inside front is by J.D. Sloane, if I'm reading the signature correctly -- whom i know nothing about. And there are some little R. Crumb drawings in the ad for the San Francisco Comic Book. Like many undergrounds, Boogey Man looks to have been inspired by pre-code horror comics; the Comics Code itself was an event that led quite directly to the emergence of the Undergrounds, a decade or so later.
