DescriptionAs a writer, Kirby was more ballsy than any of his contemporaries in mainstream US comics. Here the young Captain Victory joins the very long string of traumatized boys in Jack's oeuvre. In a late-career extra turn of the screw, CV, the young prince of the war planet, also bears a complicity in the carnage (Big Ugly's point in the final panel). This added trauma of guilt is also looked at in Jack's autobiographical story "Street Code." Many other riches on this page for those who know how to read Kirby, notably the continuation of his 4th World meditation on the operations of fascism. Thanks to Alan for the trade!Social/Sharing |

The King's vast imagination at play with a variety of character designs to be burnt up in that row of heads about to get chopped off. Kirby shows the differences in designs for the victims and perpetrators with the aggressive traits dominating the meek. It is done to show an unjust world that is the crucible for Captain Victory.

As someone said, a powerful page with an even more powerful condemnation of fascism.

The King! Great third panel, with a framing that seems to hark back to his 1950s work, like a Harvey page.
