Lynn Varley painted work with the Miller/Janson lines on an acetate overlay.

This is probably the best splash page in the whole series. Beautiful, vibrant
colors from Lynn Varley’s brush.

This piece is a perfect stand-alone image of Batman and Robin (Carrie Kelley, the first female, full-time Robin) soaring high above Gotham City, an icon symbolizing the entire storyline

Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns defined the best of 1980s comics, and has since been universally acknowledged as one of the most important and influential stories ever published.

I'm thrilled to put this on my wall. Special thanks to A for giving me the opportunity to own such a wonderful piece.

The Varley touch really made this and the series stand out amongst all the great books that came out of 1986 and still influential to this date!

Technically, this is the published version. I cannot imagine this series without Lynns magnificent coloring. This would do for me!

I've always been confused as to what these are in terms of the publishing process....to me these are the true "original" in the sense that the image is a high fidelity of the printed version.

And the color, in my mind, is better than the OA black and white art. This is glorious!
