Description
"War Story" by Robert Kanigher, February 1972.

I bought this comic, read it as a kid, and still have it.

Famous newspaper reporter Ernie Patterson -- a doppelgänger for the famous GI Joe reporter Ernie Pyle -- tags along with Sgt. Rock and Easy Company on their patrol but witnesses many tragic losses.

In the next page, a sniper kills Tony as he sits on the throne for the reporter to take his picture.

At the end the reporter tosses aside his "War Story" notebook. Wind blows across blank pages to a single sentence, "War is hell!"

Be careful, Tony. (It was rarely a good sign for a character joining Easy Co. to not have a nickname.) A very nice, expertly inked and beautifully detailed page from Russ ("my" Sgt. Rock artist).

A grittier look for the typically clean-lined Mr. Heath, but that's fitting since he's showing a battle and its aftermath. Great page!
