A celebrated commercial artist, Robert Peak during his career was awarded 8 Medals of Excellence and 4 Gold Medals by the Society of Illustrators. He is also known as the "Creator of the Modern Movie Poster", with his first poster being West Side Story in 1961.
Numerous movie posters followed, including My Fair Lady, Camelot, Excaliber, Rollerball, Apolcalypse Now,and all 6 of the initial Star Trek movies.
I remember seeing & admiring Peak's poster work as I was growing up in the 60's & 70's - and hoped to have a piece by him some day - so I was quite happy when this prelim for The Black Stallion became available. I love The Black Stallion - one of my favorite movies - and the art also makes a nice companion piece for the Ruth Sanderson Black Stallion paperback cover art in my collection.
