DescriptionThis is a true grail for me. I never thought I would have an oil I could hang my hat on by Frank Frazetta. Done on Canvas Board. This piece has an amazing history to it. First off it measures 18x24in so that is a good size. Frank did this for a novel back in 1970 and replaced the Park Ranger who stumbles upon all these mythological creatures. The book was about conspiracies. Frank got tired of the Park Ranger and decided to do away with him and paint a beautiful blonde nude summoning all these creatures under the moonlight which changes the whole painting. The whole concept of the painting was changed and I love it. This one is interesting in that instead of not liking how something turned out he just wanted it to mean something completely different and he nailed it. I would like to give a special thanks to a good friend Mr.Pistella for the assist and his friend who when he had an opportunity to buy a Frazetta from the estate, out of all the paintings he chose this one. That says a lot and a big thanks to him as well.Social/Sharing |

Is she meant to be seen as powerful or stupid for summoning all these creatures? Now I'm really interested in the rest of the story suggested by this image.

Well if she is stupid, I would not call it to her face with those creatures working for her!

Lucky you - congrats! Now I know where it's hanging, at least. I believe the female is the 3rd "figure-of-interest" to be (re)painted in the foreground, but she wins, regardless.

Acquiring a Frazetta oil has to be the top level achievement in our hobby--like the equivalent of winning the NBA championship. And this is an awesome example of what one would wish for in a Frazetta: fantastic creatures, a beautiful female form, and an atmospheric color palette. Love the story of Frank revising this piece--clearly it was done with a lot of intention and care. Congrats!

Frazetta makes her body language and anatomy in such a way that you can see her fully straining with all her might to summon these creatures. Although you can't see her facial expression, you can sense the charged emotion behind it. Each creature is amazingly lively and kept in shadow by the moon behind them. The color control is pure genius of Frazetta!

This works on many different levels. I like the subtle UFO ships in the back.

Should you really have this when all you are going to do is hang a hat on it?

Love it! This screams "Frazetta." The woman is fabulous, and so is every member of the menagerie coming to greet her

Frazetta's instincts to make upgrade changes always satisfy. This painting would be a grail for most OA art lovers I would think who enjoyed Frank's work throughout the years.

That is remarkable, not sure how you could top it. I would love to own a piece by Frazetta, but it's so far out of the realm of possibility, it's not funny. Relatively speaking, there's so few of these in the wild with those that are being locked up tight. Very very nice.

Frazetta improved this tenfold by adding the luminescent figure. Great pick-up!

Wow! Great painting. One of my Frazettas had a similar fate (Eerie 5-Swamp God). Frank painted out the two guys and was supposedly going to put a nice female on it---but unlike your painting he never got around to it! So it had this beautiful T-Rex and great background, but no drama as it once had. Well, the same guy (Rob) who helped you helped me. Only difference was Rob took the risk when he owned it and had it expertly restored back to it's original state. Looking at yours, I kinda wish Frazetta got around to putting a babe on mine as well....

I used to have multiple Frazetta posters on my walls when I was growing up, so it was a dream to have a real Frazetta painting on one of my walls. Congrats on getting a true grail.
