DescriptionNew Sunday art day! Continuing with Denys Cowan art. I was a regular reader of Mike Grell's 1988 Green Arrow series. When I heard Green Arrow was guest staring in a title called the Question, I had to check it out. Green Arrow appeared in Question #18. Read the issue and I liked it. Went back to the comic shop and bought #17. That was it, I was hooked. The Question made me a fan of Denys Cowan. The art was fantastic and the stories were great. The discussion of philosophy, the idea that not everything is black and white, it was not your typical superhero book. The Question became one of my favorite books and characters. I LOVE, LOVE this splash. Throughout issue #17 Green Arrow is shown only in silhouette, until the final reveal page and what a page it is! Green Arrow (my favorite character) stands there looking like a badass with three arrows drawn. My god, I wanted this page even before I collected comic art, before I even knew what comic art was. The image of Green Arrow was burned into my brain. I don't have a grail. What I do have is a list. When I bought my first page of art back in 1997/98 I made a list of the pieces I had to have. The be all end all of comic art for me. The list has six pieces, this is one of the six. "The Good Guy" by Denys Cowan and Rick Magyar. Bonus- For your viewing pleasure I loved this piece so much I attempted a version of my own. Done back in 1988 with an old school Bic felt tip pen and crayola markers. I still have my version. Okay, I can't take that horrid coloring, but damn, that's why original art exists to be collected! What a fabulous splash page you got yourself here, Ceasar! I love how Magyar fits over Cowan. It's different to the scratchier way that other inkers handle his pencils, but still so pretty. Really great stuff here, congrats!

That's a fantastic screen tone effect with some artistry put to it. A reveal splash that has a lasting effect to carry you until the next issue.

An outstanding splash page. I can see why it was on your list of six pieces to get. I'm also impressed with your own take on it. Great art can inspire us to create our own.

Great story behind this one! the image is also fantastic! In a hobby where "Grail" can be overused, I admit I'm guilty of this as well, it's nice to see the alternative "The List" being used.
Also, you had pretty good chops in 1988.
