Batman / Catwoman Special 1 - Mitch Gerads

Part stand alone one-shot, part coda to a long run on the flagship 'Bat' title, and part farewell and celebration of an amazing artist taken too soon; the Batman/Catwoman special was a meditation on friendship, grief, love, loss and family. Written by Tom King, and originally set to be drawn entirely by John Paul Leon, who passed mid way through his work on the story. The art was eventually completed by friends and colleagues of JPL: Bernard Chang, Shawn Crystal, and Mitch Gerads; with each scene showing a moment from a different Christmas Day throughout the life of Selina Kyle.

This page features an older but still active Selena out with her and Bruce's daughter Helena. I appreciate how Mitch took on the challenge of bending his style a bit to match the fine lines and high contrast storytelling of JPL. Gerads does the majority of his work digitally, so it is a very rare treat to enjoy his art done traditionally here for such a special story.
