DescriptionCover dated August 1991.Punisher crashing through the ceiling with glass raining down ready to takedown his enemies. Cue the theme song to Stone Cold Steve Austin "Golden Buddha" storyline. Frank Castle was enjoying a nice meal at a local spot in Chinatown, until a bunch of hoodlums came storming into the restaurant demanding payment. Unfortunately for the crooks (The Savage Tigers) Punisher was in no mood to fork over his money. Frank Castle was cleaning his glock and left it in the sterilizer back in the warehouse, but the Punisher took the chopsticks to the goons eyes and grabbed his shotgun from him. Social/Sharing |

Congrats on adding a Golden Punisher cover to your collection! It's cool to see some of the extra elements that got cropped out of the final cover.

When it comes to the Punisher, most people probably think of Mike Zeck's iconic version of the character. And of course there's the Jim Lee camp, and maybe even a Romita Jr. camp. But when you look at the various Punisher covers that Golden did, it's impossible not to include him in the conversation. Golden's version is about as dark as it gets. And ultimately, that's what the character is all about. Just a great Golden cover.

Totally agree! Zeck is the definitive iconic Punisher artist but Golden is in the next tier conversation, based solely on these 90s covers. Hadn't thought of this before, but while their styles are quite different, there are some similarities between Zeck and Golden's approach on Punisher: extremely detailed, very defined and precise lines, and of course lots of emphasis on guns and hardware.

Someone's about to wish that they had never woken up one morning and said "I'm going into a life of crime." Punishment has arrived in the form of Frank Castle!

Golden is great when drawing all the military grade weaponry and the sharp slickness in which they are preesented. The action composition is also tremendous!

This should've been the cover to the milestone #50 but I guess there weren't enough bullets flying for the editor. A broken window and rain of glass should've been enough because that's what makes The Punisher a bad ass. Congrats on acquiring this iconic cover!

Oh man, yes! Missed this one! One of Golden's best from time, and that's saying something! So much depth, energy, detail, ink...so much everything! Gotta look that much better in person. Whew. Sincere congrats, Hal!

Egads! How could I have missed this when it was first posted?!? Another FANTASTIC add to your growing collection, Hal - wow! I love the strong Golden design elements here (especially the ceiling lights hanging down, and how everything is stacked towards the top, to allow for things to "fall farther"); the weapon details, and the glass shattering and scattering everywhere... Congrats on making great moves in building up a really wonderful collection, Hal! Top shelf here!
