Description
For me at least (and as I have already mentioned elsewhere), Step By Bloody Step was as epic as God Country as far as miniseries go. It was (no pun intended) in fact a step beyond what any of us is used to - inasmuch as it had no dialogue whatsoever. This is not to detract from the input of the writer and, indeed, colorist as well as graphic designer. However, by the very nature of the project itself, the artist's contribution, in my view at least, was paramount. And Matías literally knocked this series out of the ballpark. This brilliant Uruguayan artist has a style all his own and that style is somehow uniquely suited to this particular series. He has created a masterpiece that literally speaks for itself whilst simultaneously lends itself to a number of possible interpretations (depending on the perspective of the reader concerned). This is - without exaggeration - a monumental achievement - which prompted me to do something I hardly ever do (because of financial cost, if nothing else), which was to purchase the entire final issue of this fantastic series. This is the cover to that final epic issue.

The bonus for anyone who views this particular gallery over time is that, given that there is no dialog, you will ultimately be able to view the entire issue without purchasing the book - and in its original format (albeit sans the color which, admittedly, did enhance the book itself)!

I absolutely enjoyed this mini series and must tip my hat to you for picking it up. It was definetly a great one to get with all the beautiful world building. His art was absolutely superb in this series. Congrats CAB!

Many thanks, Ian!  Yes, the artwork was simply amazing and the style somehow so suited to the content as well as spirit of the series.

I completely agree with your description in the sense that wordless storytelling is probably the most difficult to successfully achieve. I would even go as far to say that to me the series was better drawn than written. A true visual gem. Congrats.

Absolutely!  In a sense, one could say that the drawing was in fact (at least in large part) the writing itself!

Bergara was just using the Marvel method to the max.  With his storytelling, there was nothing left to script after.

Many thanks, Eranga!  As mentioned, it was such a financial strain but this series is, as you say, so brilliant.

Haven't read the book yet, but if this is a sample of what I'm missing, I'd better get a copy quick! Congrats by the way on picking up an entire book! That alone is one heck of a postive comment!

Many thanks, Bill!  I think that the TPB should be out by now.  It's a wonderful book and even though it has no dialog, one will pause from time to time not only to admire the art but also reflect on the story and what it means not only for the characters but also for us.

Thanks so very much, Tyler!  I don't have the funds to go out on the mat for virtually everything but this was an exception I felt I had to make.

Dear Teddie, yes, it was indeed!  I am not sure what your interpretation was of the ending but it certainly rounded off the series very nicely.

I've read the series around 4-5 times and each time I seem to have a different interpretation while noticing different details that change my opinion. Probably why I enjoyed it so much !

Dear Teddie, absolutely!  That is why this series is so fascinating - in a sense, we are also "writing" the script!  It's still absolutely gorgeous art though!

Personally, I thought the writing was all gibberish. :)  Still may very well be my favorite new series of the year.

LOL!  In the extremely sporadic instances where there was in fact dialog, it was, literally, gibberish!

I tried to decipher what the all the symbols might mean, then gave up shortly afterwards when the rules I came up with didn't hold up.  I'd like to believe they all translate into something, but it's a testament to the art that the story works just as well without knowing what each character says.

No, I don't think that they were intended to constitute a systematic language as such.  They're probably just random symbols.

I don't know anything about this series, but after I read God Country, perhaps I'll see if my library has  acopy of this. The art is lovely, but of course, I do love a good brush man!

Dear Rubén, the TPB has just been released. It is a very slim volume and I would highly recommend it.

Many thanks, Mikail.  It was a wonderful series indeed and the scans don't do the art justice.
