“Don’t Do Drugs!”

That’s what I asked Colleen Doran to write at the bottom. This page depicts Stan Lee and Gil Kane talking about creating Amazing Spider-Man 96, a landmark issue as the very first above ground comic that was published without the approval of the dumb Comics Code Authority.

Why didn’t they approve of that comic? Because it mentioned drugs. It didn’t matter that the comic had an anti-drug theme, if it mentioned drugs, it wasn’t getting approved. So Stan Lee told them to stick it up their donkeys and published the comic anyway. That was the start of the end of the Comics Code Authority.

Written by Stan Lee and Peter David. The Amazing Spider-Man 96 stat was pasted on.

Pretty cool that they chose some of these moments to devote a whole page to. I'm not even sure if Stan and Gil Kane looked that way with the male model looks.
