DescriptionPublished 1977When Stargrave Strikes! written by Jim Shooter. Pulsar Stargrave brings the Legion to his world to form an alliance ostensibly to battle Mordru. He later convinces Brainiac that he is his father and thus convinces the Legion to ally with him when the time comes to battle Mordru. At the end of the tale, he sends Brainiac off on a secret mission. We have to wait two issues to find out what his mission is as the tale is concluded in issue #226 written by Paul Levitz. Another fun page. Good character selection, solid pencilling by newbie Grell and decent inking and great use of zip-a-tone by newbie Wiacek!

Mike Grell, Bob Wiacek lines
With Lightning Lad around me
I remembered each slash
The lines began fissures
Like a startling sign
Stargrave had finally found me
And your voice was all I heard
That silence's what I deserve
So give me Legion
To prove me wrong
To wash this Mordru clean
Let the hatch cross
The distance in your thighs
Give me Legion
To fill zip hole
Connect this space between
Let it be enough to reach Brainiac Five
His dad is still alive

That story was so promising and then ... nothing. Great looking page though! Mike and Bob were killing it.

In Jim Shooter's interview in the Legion Companion, he said that he had a great ending for the story but someone else finished it off and 'it was bad'.

The use of shading and zip-a-tone especially in those second and fifth panels stood out as a newer comic reader and even moreso impressive almost fifty years later as an original art collector.

Wiacek's stipple work in that last panel is so good.
