Description
I've been looking for a nice example of a Wally West Flash page for a while now. When this
End Page came up that was from the first Flash Comic Book I ever got off the Spinner Rack, I knew it was the page to go after. If I recall correctly, this was probably something I picked up from a local Quick Stop a few doors down from where my Mom would get her nails and hair done. I was allowed to go a few doors down and get a few comics to occupy myself for the hour or so.

This run can be hit or miss if you want an example of Wally in his costume. He had just lost his powers after the Meta-Gene Bomb went off in the Invasion crossover and he only wears the Flash costume in the last two pages of the story. So I'm really happy that I was able to snag one of the two pages with Wally in costume. In addition there are some really nice supporting cast members featured on the page as well.

Since this was my introduction to the Flash, I've always had a soft spot for Chester Runk aka 'Chunk' as a supporting character in the title and one of Wally's best pals.

The other guy is Mason Trollbridge, who was one of Wally's neighbors when he lived in New York. Here, Mason is dressed as his childhood hero, The Clipper, who was mostly a commentary on pulp hero, The Shadow. Mason knew the real Clipper and was a kid sidekick of sorts to him and in this issue, Wally finds he's taken up the mantle of his mentor.

Here they are coming off of defeating (killing? for now?) Abra Kadabra, who was making Chunk's connection to the Void (the pocket dimension that exists within his body) go out of control.

Congrats on getting a page from your first Flash issue! That it's one of only two pages with Flash in costume is even more special. The art is really nice, too. One think I liked about the first couple of years of this series was that even when Butch Guice wasn't doing the art, all the fill in artists seemed to make a conscious effort to keep the overall look and tone that he set from the start, thereby giving the book a very consistent look from issue to issue for a good amount of time regardless of who drew any given issue. Fun Chunk appearance, too!

Whatever hair do, the Quick Stop I go, the first comic book
Is a page I know, don't wanna lose it,
But art has a way here Dzon.

They see you go buy, Purcell pencil line,
You're up in the sky, make every high five
Don't wanna lose it, but don't Clipper nails around hair.

I'm on the run again. I’m on the Chunk again.
But it's like what they say when it happens this page
You Kadabra it again and again.
