Description
A GREAT Man-Thing cover by the underrated Pascual Ferry.

I LOVE the character, always have. It may be due to my attraction to monsters in general, but I always found that his overall character design is fantastic and pushes the logic of the swamp monster to its grotesque limit (whereas Swamp Thing always remained too human in that regard).

The sense of depth is simply amazing here and expertly displayed by the grading in the pencil tones.

That fantastic eerie swamp tree could very well steal the show here if it wasn’t for Man-Thing creepily walking behind it. The delicate less-pressed graphite use gives him a somewhat vaporous look.

He looks truly elemental here, with all kinds of plants and tree branches sticking out of him complete with his hand generating a little flower, a nice element that kind of redeems the whole horror feel of the piece.

But what I love best, is that the whole scene, the whole staging of elements, figure and backgrounds, conveys a Bigfoot sighting to the piece. We, as a reader, get to see the monster in passing from the edge of our vision…

Let’s not forget the final little touch for the old timers, the easter egg of the Adventure into Fear book at the base of the tree.

Happy spooky Halloween to kids of all ages 😉

That tree is out of this world, and that Man-Thing is gorgeously weird!

I think I'll refrain from the Man-Thing jokes (this time) and just comment that this is a well-done piece!

I won't! Why would Ferry place a large and lovely tree right in the middle of the composition and purposely hide his giant-size Man-Thing?

By the way, Fred, I've never seen Ferry draw in this style until now and I love it!

All jokes aside, let be brutally honest here...

With this piece, it's CLEAR (to everyone) that I own/posess/benefit from one of the, if not THE BEST MAN-THING ON CAF!

(There, I said it)

^^

FANTASTIC cover, FM, and I wholeheartedly agree with all points, from Pascual's "underrated-ness", to the foreground tree's gorgeous execution, to Man-Thing's enduringly excellent character design...  What a treat to see Pascual's take on Marvel's pre-eminent swamp monster!  Congrats on a terrific Pascual variant cover; he always does such a terrific job on them!

A delicate Man-Thing that grows out of nature into hardened wood like the tree that he has an organic symmetry with.

I love how different Pascual's approach is here when compared to his other work. While most artists will attack characters like Man (or swamp) Thing with grit and shadow, the delicate pencil tones here and less is more approach really makes this piece sing. Congrats!

Gorgeous Man-Thing cover by Pascual Ferry! Like you, I love the way the tree serves to remind us of Man-Thing's connection to nature. I like the way he's peering around the twisted trunk of the tree, a little like the way we see a deer in the forest, not standing out but blending into the forest. Beautiful linework here--There's a beautiufl delicacy to Pascuat's pencils! Great pick-up!

I know this is a Man-Thing piece, but I am REALLY loving that tree!  Yes, of course MT is very cool too.

Really digging all that graphite goodness throughout, both on the tree and MT behind it.  And I agree - Ferry is underrated.  Congrats!
