DescriptionThis Gregor Duncan illustration is the last full-page illustration found in The Doctor and the Devil, a 1940 book written by David H. Keller and published by Simon & Schuster. The illustration features Dr. Hubler as he encounters the Devil, AKA, Mr. Robin Goodfellow, in a sanitarium. The illustration is not signed by Duncan, but is signed in full by Keller.Ducan was doing cartoons, comic book art and book illustration at this point, just two years before he joined the armed services during WWII. His book illustrations were his most mature work, as evidenced by the fine pen & ink drawing in this illustration. Lots of lovely hatching and cross-hatching, resulting in some terrific textures.
