Oracle by
Ron Salas
Although The Killing Joke is a good story, I hate how it treated Barbara Gordon. She would never have opened that door without checking the peephole, and she certainly wouldn't have just stood there, frozen, waiting to be shot. But at least in the aftermath, John Ostrander and Kim Yale gave her a new role and a new life as Oracle. Barbara's new identity as Oracle proved to be an invaluable resource first to the Suicide Squad, then the Bat-Family, and eventually to almost every single DC superhero. And her time with Black Canary and the other Birds of Prey, particularly under writers Chuck Dixon and Gail Simone, showed off her intelligence, bravery and resourcefulness in one of my all-time favorite monthly series. So yes, I wanted Ron Salas to draw Barbara in the role that defined her in the 1990's and early 2000's, and he did a spectacular job! Oracle appears calm and determined, ready to keep fighting the good fight, and Ron also gives us an echo of her past as Batgirl in the background, with a great pose of throwing a Batarang. Huge thanks to Ron Salas for always delivering high quality commissions!
