Back in the day the Defenders meant as much to me as the Avengers. Gil Kane's cover art had a lot to do with it. Inked by Romita he really shines. So nostalgically great. Here is HA's write up-
Gil Kane and John Romita Sr. The Defenders #27 Cover Original Art (Marvel, 1975). Marvel covers of the 1970s were created by some of the best artists in the industry. On top of that list were Gil Kane and John Romita Sr., the talent behind this dramatic image featuring Hulk, Dr. Strange, and Valkyrie. This cover fronts the book that included the first cameo appearance of Starhawk from the Guardians of the Galaxy. Ink over graphite on cover stock Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 15", matted and UV glass-front, archival framed to 18.5" x 23.5". Slight toning, taped stat logo, header, and text paste-ups, residue staining, staple holes in the top margin, whiteout touch-ups, with light rippling and handling wear. In Very Good condition.

Wow! Business must've been good this year. You're really cleaning up on Heritage. Primo Bronze Age cover by Kane/Romita. The fact that's a Defenders cover is just icing on an already killer cake. Congrats buddy!

Wonderfully dynamic Gil Kane art! Kane set the tone for 70's Marvel and brought more broad action and tension to their covers over the competition. You can see Romita Sr. adding the inks that unified the Marvel line and maybe completely taking over the Valkyrie face on this cover.

Wow, major congrats Kirk, you deserve it. That really is a stunning cover. It brings to me back how excited I was to pick up that comic at the time, while on a seaside holiday. I can practically smell the sea. The combination of Kane and Romita is superb, as you say. It really is dynamic, and sums up everything Marvel was about in the '70s. Fabulous!

Thanks Paul- could not agree more! My mind goes to the smell of asphalt and the taste of a cherry slupee as I had to read the issue in the 7-11 parking lot because I couldn't wait to ride my bike home.
