From the First Comics crossover from 1988. It was also used as a print in a Steve Rude portfolio at the time. I always liked those covers.

Incredibly bright with a glow of energy that bursts from a core in waves! They bounch off the characters to produce even more unique effects.

I could quibble with Dreadstar's costume from this era but who cares? This is a prime Rude/Nexus painting from arguably a peak of his artistic powers that is both dynamic in composition and color. Huge kudos to you for picking this up.
