DescriptionMy, what a classic this story isn't! "Gremmie's Reef" (by Hayden Howard, Worlds of If, October 1964) is a surfing story, sort of, more or less. This piece illustrates the moment when a scientifically inclined surfer uses a ball-peen hammer to drive a screwdriver into an alien, organic space probe in the ocean, which reacts by turning all life on earth purple.Yes. Really. This is a minor Finlay, I suppose; but Finlay beats most fantasy artists on the worst day he ever crawlt, as Walt Kelly would say. Social/Sharing |

I think it's great that this has a high level of quality in it with linework that would put most artists to shame.
