Description

Marvels was one of those series that just blew my mind and redefined comics, story telling and, of course, art. I've been watching for art from this for > 20yrs and stumbled on this one in the EU and was able to liberate it back to the US.

Here in the early start of the story, we see normal citizens going along their way in NYC to see a hero leaping above them. Not the most exciting page, but the level of detail in every figure, the lighting is amazing.

This is a Ross painted page with Ross pencils underneath, not a production color guide.

I'm pretty sure Ross used some photo reference for the newsroom of old Timely Comics. Martin Goodman, Burgos, and Everett possibly.

In my mind (along with Kingdom Come), Ross' best work by far. And, as you say, an important book. I wish I still had a several pages from this.

It's hard not to remember any moment from Marvels. This is a memorable "dawn of the superheroes" page.

You're right, this series was brilliantly concieved and executed. Introduced us to the dazzling art of Alex Ross.
