Description
What do you do when your all-time most coveted cover grail sells at auction for $90,000? Since I couldn't take out another mortgage on the house to buy it I did the next best thing: commission Alan Davis to do an homage of his own work.

And I have to say I'm truly stunned by the results. It's such a close homage there's no questioning what piece it's based on but it's different enough to be a masterpiece all on its own.

Many thanks to Paul for making the arrangements and my eternal gratitude to Alan for creating a true grail for my collection and for the decades of wonderful comics and fond memories in the pages of Excalibur.

Nice!  And pure Davis pencils and inks too.  See?  Not every grail has to cost 90k.  Congrats buddy!

Very exquisite with the naturally smooth flow of lines for the bodies, the adornments of a princess and for the sword and cape for the warrior.  Having Nightcrawler with his dark and handsome look brings a lot of his swashbuckling swagger!  The big moon and the square makes for an attractive background frame, while the small moon brings balance against the raised arm for a very pleasing composition.

Nightcrawler is indeed the finest swashbuckler in all of comics! Thanks for stopping by and for the kind words!

Huge congrats!  A nice homage, but a great piece of art in its own right!  Some sublime inks!

You made the right decision. Your grail went for 90k? Wow, classic older art is very dear now. I could live on 90,000 for 5 years. These days I have a very small income. I would have to sell all my artwork to fund such a purchase. On a very positive note this is a fantastic version of the classic cover.
