Description

Classic X-Men was my intro to the X-Men and the Claremont/Bolton backups were so character driven, so unique, and the John Bolton art was so lush, so gorgeous. Classic X-Men was the A+ stuff that made me love the X-Men specifically, and comics in general. I am still in a state of euphoria from getting a page from my very first issue recently - the one where Jean & Misty save the dolphin family from a shark.

I bought Classic X-Men #12 and #13 on a family road trip, and between the Art Adams covers, the Byrne interiors, and the Bolton backups - coupled with prime era Chris Claremont - it cemented a forever love of comics. After 2 months, I still pick this page up 3x a week and smile.

Gorgeously illustrated and perfect in black and white, with no need for color. Love the waves, the choreography of Jean and Misty diving, and Misty's expression in that middle panel. Oh, and your story of finding Art Adams, Byrne, and Bolton all doing their take on the X-Men within those pages of Classic X-Men made me smile (I can relate).

Beautiful page by Bolton. His backup stories in Classic X-Men remain some of my all-time favorite X-Men stories to this day.
